There is a need for a scheme name that can be used for examples in documentation without fear of conflicts with current or future actual schemes. The scheme “example” is hereby registered as a ‘permanent’ scheme for that purpose. (RFC 7595: Guidelines and Registration Procedures for URI Schemes)
